Twice a year I dutifully append a new shopping list to my iPhone.  One is for fall-winter apparel, the other is for--you guessed it--spring and summer. These lists are composed over many months, with inspiration flowing in from a variety of sources - the street, the web, print, music videos, international runways and, most importantly - my imagination.

In most conversations today about the manufacturing of fashion, there will be reference made to the use of industrial technology in modern design. However, we rarely pay attention to the historical innovations in fabric developments which were the precursors to modern innovations. More importantly, as fast fashion is increasingly able to knock off high-end creations, designers are increasingly relying on technological innovation to ensure that their wares are not easily copied (and found weeks later hanging on the racks of fast fashion retailers).
