It’s always a wonderful walk down memory lane when I get to do an interview with someone I met before my journey as an interviewer and writer began. Zara Durrani is one of those people. We were introduced through my daughter during the time she was exploring a little free lance modeling. Small moments of running into each other here at various fashion events offered brief conversations to build on. These moments then brought us to open a Social Media connection and I have followed her career ever since.

Over the last several years, it’s beengreat to watch Durrani mature as a entrepreneur, artist and woman.
From modeling, she moved on to acting, on camera talent, running her own television show, launching a public relations company and embracing a positive lifestyle that she encourages others to explore as well. Every time we meet, I am greeted with a warm smile and hug, as well as a welcome bit of “catching-up” conversation to reconnect – even if only for a few minutes.

Don’t let her easy-going, relaxed manner fool you, Durrani is also a mover and shaker with big dreams. She’s on a journey leading to exciting new opportunities and I will be there following along each step of the way.

8Q Spotlight Zara Durrani

What is your current career(s) – paid and unpaid?

I run a boutique creative company, Inspired Life Production. We currently offer brand consulting and management services, which entails general strategizing, public relations, and social media, as well as creative production services. Our goal is to inspire clients to define and communicate their message to their markets in an honest, unique, and creative manner.

I am also a TV Host and an actress. I work regularly as an MC at events, or get hired to work on camera for red carpet events. I have worked on television and productions in Vancouver, LA and Mexico on various projects.

Unpaid, my art. I would like to have a gallery exhibit at some point. I have also been doing quite a few shoots for the re-launch of the Life & Style with Zara website.

Can you share an interesting thing (or two) about your journey to reach this moment?

I started Inspired Life Production in 2011 to launch my television show Life & Style with Zara. As an entrepreneur, I got a chance to wear many hats including PR for the show, running social media, working on my own personal brand as well as for the TV show. The entire process was quite enlightening, and has opened many doors for me today. The show aired nationally for 2 years.

What 3 things would you like people to know about you to give them a sense of who you really are?

Good question. Three things I value in life are self-expression, authenticity and adventure. Three things I’d like others to know about me are –

  1. I consider myself an artist, forever evolving. I started painting last year and have received interest in my art.
  2. I have worked with Vince Milardo – a great business coach, for the last few years.
  3. My focus this year is more ease and flow in life. More thriving, less striving.

Highest moment so far?

Launch of my television show Life & Style with Zara on Joy TV to a room packed with close to 500 individuals, friends, acquaintances, friends of friends. My heart overflowed with love that evening. I felt full and complete. There is no other way to describe it. And then watching the show air on Chek TV, Shaw and Novus. It was a dream come true.

What are you working on right now? In the next 6 months?

  1. I’m currently working on re-launching LifeAndStylewithZara.com as a conscious style blog, focusing on fashion, beauty, healing and wellness.
  2. In the next 6 months I hope to finish my visa application for the US!

Who and/or what inspires you?

My friends and peers inspire me. To see people I know go for their dreams, to watch someone pursue their burning desire – it always lights up my own fire. I am also inspired by people who live full lives, making time for people, community, friends, leisure.

How do you personally define success?

Success to me is going to bed with a smile on your face, knowing you did your best that day. Feeling content and ease within, yet being teachable and always willing to grow. Success is also giving yourself permission to enjoy life and the accomplishment of said goals. Success is waking up with your heart on fire, filled with excitement (and some nerves) to get to work, to create. Success is ease in life, more joy, laughter and hugs.

How do you relax and regroup?

Yoga! I stretch it out. A lot has been written about the importance of exercise, and I believe something magical happens when we work out or do yoga. We get out of our heads and into our bodies. Just having that one hour to myself is a must. If I am feeling overwhelmed, I listen to a guided meditation or take a nap. I also love spending time alone and being quiet. Painting has been another great way to help me release stress. I also go for regular walks with friends on the seawall.
