Vancouver, BC – April 2, 2018 – Art! Vancouver, the art fair taking place April 19-22 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, is celebrating the unique voices and work of local and international artists, and will be showcasing award-winning artist and fashion designer Dorothy Grant this year.

The voices of women and minorities have been a subject of growing attention the past few years, and Dorothy Grant, a Haida artist who received the Order of Canada in 2015, is a perfect ambassador for this social movement in an artistic setting.

Grant calls her work “Yaagudaang,” a Haida word meaning “having a sense of self-respect and pride.” It is this underlying theme that has drawn comparisons between her clothes and those of iconic fashion designer Coco Chanel, who also aspired to transform the ways in which women thought about themselves through clothing. Grant’s garments have been seen on runways and red carpets throughout the world, and can be found in 16 museums across Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom,

Grant will be on site for the art fair’s entire weekend. For more information about her work, visit www.dorothygrant.com, and for tickets or more information about the Art! Vancouver show, please visit www.artvancouver.net.
